Look at all of these bright, shining new faces! There’s even a few less bright, less shining faces, but hey, this city welcomes all types. Chances are, if you’ve just arrived, you're seeing some pretty crazy things, unless you're used to an eye-blinding amount of neon, robots, weird-ass technology, magic, and an omnipresent police force...and hey, if you are, congrats, you're gonna settle in juuuuust fine. But for the rest of you, the Head knows this has gotta be pretty overwhelming, right?

Hello, new citizens of Dualis,
and welcome to your monthly Network Adjacency Protocol~!

NAPs are a monthly community networking event similar to the Earth concept of speed dating! Two citizens (new arrivals and old hands alike) are placed at a table together with a handy cue card of queries to help break the proverbial ice. Ask queries and receive results, or ignore the card and yeet yourself straight into a brand new friendship! But don't be too shy, you've only got ten minutes together, and if you just sit in silence for the whole ten, the Network Admins are likely to come supervise and try to repair the uplink through a mild shock to the ol' central nervous system. You might find yourself saying all sorts of unintended facts about yourself if that happens...probably better to just make friends, right? Who doesn’t like friends?!

This month’s event is held at the brand new RoCocoa Cat Cafe, a sparkly new establishment that caters to children and the young at heart with iced and hot cocoa drinks of all kinds, delicious pastries, age-appropriate live music, and of course many friendly kitties who love to lounge in laps. The cats are of all shapes, sizes, and colors, including some who may look a little different from what you expect, or may look like an ordinary cat but are actually anything but ordinary underneath that adorable fur coat. All cats in the cafe are adoptable, too, if you meet a new furry friend and just can’t bear to go home without them!

So pull up a chair, get to know your new neighbors, and enjoy a sugary treat or two with the resident furbabies. You might just meet your new two- or four-legged best friend!

[ That's disappointing, but not really unexpected at this point. It's a little rude of Aleifr to stare, but the cat certainly doesn't seem to mind. ]

Well... I'm missing mine, if you see one. Or a sword, I'm missing that too.

[Hang around Aleifr enough, Finn, you'll discover he doesn't care about politeness in most situations.]

[He's still distracted enough by the cat that he doesn't realize the ambiguity of that statement for a moment. When he does, he shakes it off and finally turns to face Finn properly.]

Not my backpack. My weapon.

I'll keep an eye out. What kind of weapon was it?

Axe.

[Aleifr holds up his hands, approximating the length of the axe and then the rough size of its head.]

This long, head's about this big, handle's wrapped in leather, and there are some runes carved onto the blade edge. A charm hanging off the end of it.

[One Aila had carved for him, but that wouldn't help Finn find it, so he doesn't add that bit.]

Your sword?

Cool, cool. [ He nods, picturing the weapon in his mind. It might help to know what the runes say, but then, what are the chances of finding an axe with runes and a charm that isn't the right one? ]

Mine's a foil with a gold hilt. Long, [ He holds his hands apart to indicate the size- normal for a fencing foil. ] and all pointy like.

[He doesn't know what a "foil" is, but a sword with a golden hilt does narrow things down a bit. Aleifr actually seems briefly impressed by that detail, actually. Everything rare seems to be more common here than it is on Fenris, but gold ornamentation is quite the status symbol where he comes from. Something only jarls with the wealth of kings have.]

Long blade, sharp point, gold hilt.

[He rattles of the details for confirmation with a quick nod as he commits them to memory.]

I'll keep my eyes open. For the backpack too.

[ It's a nice sword, one of many he's found in various dungeons. Dungeons always have nice stuff in them. ]

[He wouldn't know. Not many dungeons on Fenris -- or at least not that he's heard of.]

[He holds out one massive hand toward Finn.]

[ He shakes the offered hand, but doesn't try to pronounce that name. ]

[ So still no sword. But this meeting-people thing is pretty fun by itself. ]

So, did you know there were so many kinds of cats?

Didn't know what a cat was before today.

They weren't in like, books and stuff? [ Weird. ] I knew about the one kind of cat, and there are a couple of candy cats in the Candy Kingdom, but most of these are just bonkers!

"Candy Kingdom"?

[What in the fuck sort of place does this boy come from?]

The Candy Kingdom, yeah.

[aleifr]

[You've done nothing to answer any of the questions he has, Finn.]

Are they ... known for their sweets, or ...?

What, you've never heard of the Candy Kingdom?

[ Dang, he must be really far away from home. ]

The whole kingdom is made out of candy. All the people are candy too.

[aleifr]

[Aleifr just ... sort of stares at Finn for a moment, eyes narrowing slightly as he tries to figure out whether or not the boy is fucking with him. When he concludes that the boy is speaking honestly ... he just sort of leans back in his chair.]

What the hell sort of place do you come from?

Well, technically. Jake and I live in the grasslands, but it's part of the kingdom's holdings.
