they show you how to swim

WHO: All Dualizens, old and new
WHAT: Your regularly scheduled NAPs event for the month
WHERE: Dualis Oasis
WHEN: Nov. 7-10
WARNINGS: Please use these if applicable!

Look at all of these bright, shining new faces! There’s even a few less bright, less shining faces - maybe even a few folks without faces - but hey, this city welcomes all types. Chances are, if you’ve just arrived, you're seeing some pretty crazy things, unless you're used to an eye-blinding amount of neon, robots, weird-ass technology, magic, and an omnipresent police force...and hey, if you are, congrats, you're gonna settle in juuuuust fine. But for the rest of you, the Head knows this has gotta be pretty overwhelming, right?

Well, since your quaint individual processing units are probably having a hard time, why not link up with another one? By which the Head means...

Hello, new citizens of Dualis,
and welcome to your monthly Network Adjacency Protocol~!

NAPs are a monthly community networking event similar to the Earth concept of speed dating! Two citizens (new arrivals and old hands alike) are placed at a table together with a handy cue card of queries to help break the proverbial ice. Ask queries and receive results, or ignore the card and yeet yourself straight into a brand new friendship! But don't be too shy, you've only got ten minutes together, and if you just sit in silence for the whole ten, the Network Admins are likely to come supervise and try to repair the uplink through a mild shock to the ol' central nervous system. You might find yourself saying all sorts of unintended facts about yourself if that happens...probably better to just make friends, right? Who doesn’t like friends?!

The weather outside may be taking a turn toward chilly, but you can still get your swim on during this month’s NAPs, held at the Dualis Oasis, an indoor temperature-controlled aquatic amusement park with giant slides, swimming pools, and lazy winding float rivers. Appropriate swimming gear is required for entry to this part of the park, but there are a number of shops just outside that will gladly sell you swimwear and accessories.

For those of you who wish to avoid a humid environment or just hate fun, a dehumidified lounge and restaurant offer quieter, dryer spaces for chatting and snacking. The actual speed-friending itself is in progress here, but you’re welcome to stick around and continue conversations with your new friends.

So c’mon, what are you waiting for? Just dive right in for fun and friendship - the water’s fine, fine, fine, just like everything else in this fair city. But hey, remember to play safe. No running!

"Yes. I haven't really gotten to try them yet." She was a little worried about losing the thin material that made up her bathing suit but it was a chance with taking if it meant a little bit of fun. Surely these slides were meant for bathing suits.

... hopefully.

"Come on."

Wanda beckoned him with a wave of her hand to follow her towards the slides. Afterwards they can play in the water some.

They were definitely made for bathing suits. But, well, she could get a wrap. Or another suit. The covered more. Like a surfing wetsuit. That seems like a better choice.

"Yes, ma'am. I'm following."

Of course he's ma'aming her.

Wanda rolled her eyes, just a little bit, before leading him towards the stairs that took them up to the top of the slides. It wasn't a far walk and the lines to the slides weren't too long.

"Have you done something like this before?"

She glanced back at him, her misty green eyes curious and bright.

Well, if she isn't going to correct him, he's going to continue calling her ma'am. Which is the best thing to do when you're dealing with the mother of friends.

"Water slides? No. We didn't really have them around in Chicago."

"I haven't either." Though in her case it was because she'd never had the time. "I'm excited to give it a try." Once they reached the end of the short line she turned back to face Nida, leaning against the wooden railing.

"Chicago is where you grew up?"

"Hyde Park specifically but yeah. I missed it a bit," David admits, with a brief shrug. He doesn't really miss it as much now. He does head up the stairs with her, frowning as he considers it. His brain used to be able to do the math to calculate the loads on this. Probably not needed. This thing is clearly sturdy.

The line moved quickly and once they were at the top Wanda gestured with a hand.

"Want to go first? We might be able to go down two slides at the same time." Which just seemed silly but fun.

Silly and fun indeed. David considers and then nods. "They might actually be different lengths, but I'm happy to do it."

He moves toward the further back yellow one and gets in position for it.

"See you at the bottom?"
minus1twin: (Not laughing... yet.)

Wanda moved over to the blue slide as a smile tugged at the corner of her mouth. She couldn't help it.

She was excited. "See you down there." She gave him a little salute before dropping herself feet first down the slide. Wind rushed passed her as the water glided beneath her. A laugh tore from her throat in a sudden surprise at the speed and rush of the fall.

It was exhilarating and all too soon she was crashing into the pool at the bottom.

For David his slide was less fast and more twisty. Which was, of course, its own delight. Once in the water he paddles quickly up from the water and away from the point where he splashed out, knowing the area had to be cleared for the next person. Only then does he look around.

"Wanda? Where are you?"
