WHO: Open to all residents
WHAT: Your regularly scheduled NAPs event for the month
WHERE: The RoCocoa Cat Cafe
WHEN: Aug. 10-14
WARNINGS: Please use these if applicable!

Look at all of these bright, shining new faces! There’s even a few less bright, less shining faces, but hey, this city welcomes all types. Chances are, if you’ve just arrived, you're seeing some pretty crazy things, unless you're used to an eye-blinding amount of neon, robots, weird-ass technology, magic, and an omnipresent police force...and hey, if you are, congrats, you're gonna settle in juuuuust fine. But for the rest of you, the Head knows this has gotta be pretty overwhelming, right?

Well, since your quaint individual processing units are probably having a hard time, why not link up with another one? By which the Head means...

Hello, new citizens of Dualis,
and welcome to your monthly Network Adjacency Protocol~!

NAPs are a monthly community networking event similar to the Earth concept of speed dating! Two citizens (new arrivals and old hands alike) are placed at a table together with a handy cue card of queries to help break the proverbial ice. Ask queries and receive results, or ignore the card and yeet yourself straight into a brand new friendship! But don't be too shy, you've only got ten minutes together, and if you just sit in silence for the whole ten, the Network Admins are likely to come supervise and try to repair the uplink through a mild shock to the ol' central nervous system. You might find yourself saying all sorts of unintended facts about yourself if that happens...probably better to just make friends, right? Who doesn’t like friends?!

This month’s event is held at the brand new RoCocoa Cat Cafe, a sparkly new establishment that caters to children and the young at heart with iced and hot cocoa drinks of all kinds, delicious pastries, age-appropriate live music, and of course many friendly kitties who love to lounge in laps. The cats are of all shapes, sizes, and colors, including some who may look a little different from what you expect, or may look like an ordinary cat but are actually anything but ordinary underneath that adorable fur coat. All cats in the cafe are adoptable, too, if you meet a new furry friend and just can’t bear to go home without them!

So pull up a chair, get to know your new neighbors, and enjoy a sugary treat or two with the resident furbabies. You might just meet your new two- or four-legged best friend!

She shrugs.

"In any other city, probably. In Gotham 'thief' doesn't really make the cut. She never seems to get caught, either..." Her smile is knowing. Selina's been caught plenty of times, but she never makes it to booking, much less prison.

"I have to imagine she likes cats, or why bother with the ears?"
11calls: yeah this won't come back to bite us in our ass (Wait play that again)

"So she's a thief? Like a Catwoman Cat burglar?" The words bring a quick smile to face, because it sounds delightfully absurd and like something out of one of the comic books that Nic is always reading even when he says that he is in his office actually working on something. She's been friends with him for too long to know when he's full of anything other than bullshit.
ichoosefight: (so detective what brings you here?)

"Exactly like that," Steph laughs. 'Delightfully absurd' pretty much sums up their lives.

"Have you had cats before? I heard these are all up for adoption. Even the freaky-deaky ones."
11calls: Take a nap, Strand. You look worse than I do. (Driving.)

"Well, if I do decide to go on some sort of crime spree, I'll definitely need to remember that Catwoman is already taken. And 'Dog Lady' just sounds like something that's begging to have some idiot just call you 'Bitch.'" Alex isn't an idiot; people get weird about women reporters and she's had to experience some things with it. Oh, she normally brushes it off as 'not this time' but she's definitely seen how bad it can be.

But onto happier subjects! Alex just laughs quickly and shakes her head. "Nope. My Dad was allergic when I was a kid so I didn't have any pets and I have to travel a fair amount for my job so it doesn't seem to be fair to have a pet when I'm gone so much."

Steph just nods. Not to mention 'dog lady' is a pretty lame name regardless.

"Yeah? What's your job?"

Alex’s job here is a bit of a sore spot for her, and she can’t help but thinking of it as such. Including both high school and college, and of course grad school she’s been a journalist for over half of her life. Honestly she’s been one longer than she’s not so when she’s asked what her job is, the first answer is automatic. “I’m a reporter!” But the second answer makes her make a face as if she’d swallowed a bug. “Well, here I’m a copy editor. Which is a little bit of a step down.”
ichoosefight: (omnomnom?)

[personal profile] ichoosefight 2019-08-30 07:03 pm (UTC)(link)
She winces in sympathy.

"Oof, sorry." Although... "What is a copy editor?"
11calls: When did I start working for you, exactly?! (Researching)

[personal profile] 11calls 2019-09-03 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
With a soft sigh, and a long stroke over the cat in her lap as if it would take away some of the sting from the job, Alex just explains. "Basically? I look over the copy of the story and just like check it for grammar and any really glaring factual errors. But sometimes they don't even take those into account."
ichoosefight: (here we go)

[personal profile] ichoosefight 2019-09-10 08:44 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oooooh." That sort of makes sense, she guesses. She's still not clear on where the 'copy' part comes in. It also seems to her that in a society like this one a computer ought to be able to do Alex's job for her.

"Pretty bottom-rung, huh. That's a bummer."
