"Yeah. I think that's step one, figure out how to take out its eyes and ears." It wasn't going to be as easy as painting over a camera's lens or digging out bugs on their phones, but there had to be a way to do it.

"What does it matter if it's a superpower?" Why would luck need to be a superpower? He could understand people saying she's cheating, as it seemed like there was no reason this woman would ever win a game.

"That's gonna have to come from somebody smarter than me." She could try and she'd probably get something lucky, but also like. About all she's good for is smashing things. And making a lot of money. Actually, that might be helpful.

"Yeah, well. Some people are pretty much insulted that it is a superpower, thanks." Certain people need to get their head of their ass. But that's pretty standard, really.

"Little more common where I come from, but people don't really like it."

"Smarter than me too. So we'll find someone smarter." Strategy was going to be important. The Head knew what it was doing. They'd need to, too. But luck is what pulls through when strategy fails, and that'll be important too.

"Some people are probably jealous. I am. Have you been to the casino yet?" Money actually would be helpful, but Duke's talking half as a budding resistance fighter, half as a thief.

"Yeah, there's a few of those around last I heard." The egghead types. They could be useful too. Maybe they were interested in an escort to wherever it is they're going? There's probably a few places. Ah well.

"A couple times. They don't really like me in there. Gotta take off before I get banned, you know?" She definitely doesn't want to lose that bit of income. It paid really good.

"Do you know anyone here who could help with that?" That was going to be the first challenge, figuring out who would help them and what they could do. What they were capable of, now that they knew what they were up against.

"I'd say winning isn't cheating but I don't think anyone there would agree with me." Not when the casino was losing, anyway. "Might want to move some of that into liquid assets."

"Not personally. But after that shit they'll probably start coming out of the walls. Carefully." Or wherever they were hiding. Was probably safer to stay hidden before but there's only so much abuse people can take.

"Doesn't matter, they can still kick you out. They don'e like losing money. They'll find something. And I'd like to keep making money."

"I hope you're right." Anyone sane would want to help, Duke thinks. He doesn't want to consider the possibility that any of the transplants would turn their backs and side with the Head.

"Yeah, you gotta get paid. But if I were you? I'd make sure that money was in something I could hold onto."

"Guess we'll find out soon, won't we?" People aren't going to just take that lying down. Hopefully. It's still a possibility that they'll be too terrified to do anything, after all.

"Eh, like I said, I'm lucky. I'll probably be the account they miss." Or whatever. Not that she trusts anything at all here, but still.

"Guess we will." People shouldn't. There are ways to get through to terrified people, if you're lucky.

But still, Duke thinks back to his 21st birthday, the poker game where he won the Cape Rouge, the fishing boat he'd lived on since then. How he'd later found out that was planned, so he could unknowingly inherit the boat his father had owned.

"Probably," he repeats, frowning thoughtfully. "I'm not trying to be one of those doubters but there's being lucky, and there's being lucky when the odds are rigged against you."

"That's the whole point of being lucky." But she does understand the need to be cautious too. Sure she can be cocky, and she will be the first to admit that, but she's not stupid. Or. Not as stupid as other people she could name.

"I'll be fine, promise."
