WHO: Heather Mason/Sharon da Silva (merged) & David Alleyne (helpdesk_hero)
WHAT: David offered to take Heather go-karting.
WHERE: indoor go-kart track
WHEN: maybe a week or so ago
WARNINGS: pg-13 for Ms. Mason's ability to curse
Heather didn't know what she'd expected when David made his initial offer. She thought he'd forget or, darkly, 'forget' and that would be the end of it. When he'd texted her and they'd made plans, she found herself pleasantly surprised and oddly giddy. It was enough to cast off the shadow that had been following her since the meeting with the Heart.
She rarely considers her outfit most days, often opting for whatever she touches first rather than what might look best, but finds herself waffling and uncertain. You're being silly, she thinks, pressing down her nerves. It's just because it's something new for her, that's all. She ends up dressing as conservatively as she usually does, leggings and long sleeves and that damaged white vest she's always wearing, though she finds herself pulling on a pale blue turtleneck to match her eyes.
When the time finally comes to head to the track, Heather finds that her giddiness has begun to ebb, replaced instead with a sort of buzzing eagerness she's unused to. There'd been so much awful in her head lately but, at the moment, they were shockingly absent. A welcome change, one she doesn't think on long, her attention almost entirely on her companion.
"Gonna let me beat you?" She asks him with a playful quirk of her lips. She didn't forget he said he'd go easy on her, after all.

Of course it's easy to make someone feel normal when you lived as he did. He's seen enough of weird stuff to find people like her fully normal, no matter the background.
"I think I'd really like hanging out again sometime. Even if it's only to teach you more mixed drinks. For your own sake."
He makes sure the words are gentle, not too eager, definitely kind. Not meant to get her too nervous.

She's got recipes memorized by heart now, including a variety of popular other worldly drinks that required a bit of sucking up and smiling to convince her boss to splurge on a few new types of liquor. Still,"but I could always use another lesson."
Especially from him, though that thought is immediately written off.
Too soon, they're called again to the track, though this time it's not the one for novices. Heather's too impatient to spend too long learning or bothering with perfection; she's enjoying herself and he seems to be, too, and that's all that matters. All of this has made her forget about the situation they're all in. Her worries seem distant.
"Hope that place has good pastrami!" She gestures at him with her index finger, an unsaid mock of a threat, before placing her helmet back on her head. A few runs on this course and she's going to be hungry, if she's not already feeling the tug already.

And he is nothing if not reliable. Except for one race where some asshole teen puts him into the wall and he only gets third, David consistently hits first place. All four of the races they have before David is eager to take a break because yeah, DEFINITELY time for a deli run.
He grins as he climbs out of his kart and smirks at Heather.
"Well, fun or what?"
