[ He nods. Nina wasn't the only loss he suffered. It was just the most recent. The cruelest. The one that was due to his own personal failure. An attempt to heal the wound upon the world, at least in some small way, that he had managed to survive when the rest of his family had not. Her life snuffed out before she even fully understood how special she was. It still strikes him as an unspeakably cruel and selfish thing to do, to have a child when he knew what kind of man he was and what kind of life he had lead and how she would be forced to bear the consequences sooner or later.

He will need to find another way. ]


Loss is inevitable. Isolation is a choice. Sometimes choices we have made preclude others.

[ There are things he would have done differently. But it doesn't matter, now. He nods at the confirmation at at least the young men she spoke of might still be alive somewhere. ]
