It's not that Tommy would find David's closeness unwelcome - he's just unaware of the history David has with a version of Tommy from his future, a future that may not even be accurate anymore. He can tell David is hiding something, and he can guess it's something fairly significant, but as for what that is? Tommy couldn't even begin to guess. He's only ever had crushes on girls before, and he hadn't insisted on befriending David with any stronger feelings involved. Maybe that will change, with more time together, but for now, Tommy is just glad he has the chance to reconnect with David and get to know him better.

"This way," he says, hooking a thumb to the right and turning to lead down the sidewalk. As for slowing him down ... being forced to live without his powers in the village was frustrating as hell, but it did give Tommy some much-needed perspective.

"You know," he says, shoving his hands into the pockets of his jeans, "where I was before, I didn't have my speed. It feels a little weird to have it back again - not that I'm complaining." He's just a little less impatient about everyone else being slower than him.
